This component sits at the top of the motor stack, on top of the Traction Motor Inverter. It is sometimes referred to as the On-board Charger (OBC), but that is actually one part of it.

On-board Charger[edit | edit source]

This module takes AC power from the J1772 charge port, and converts it to high-voltage DC to charge the Lithium Ion Battery.

It is available in a 3.3kW or a 6.6kW variant.

DC-DC Converter[edit | edit source]

This module takes high-voltage DC from the Lithium Ion Battery and converts it to low-voltage (~12V) DC to charge the 12V battery and power the low-voltage equipment in the vehicle, such as electronics, lights, window motors, wipers, blower motor, etc.

It has a maximum output of about 135A.[1]

Junction Box[edit | edit source]

The PDM contains relays related to AC and DC charging, plus connections to the air conditioning compressor, PTC heater, CHADEMO inlet, etc.[2]
